My Kitchen Makes Me Happy

Ask me which room in my house is my favorite, without hesitation I’ll tell you, it’s the kitchen. Ever since I was a child, I have always been fascinated by the amazing things that can be created in the kitchen. Food has always been my passion. Cooking and baking since I was able to reach the countertops. Well, helping my mom and grandmother cook and bake anyhow. Unlike my friends and other family members who were around my age, instead of playing with toys or playing outside, I preferred to stay in the kitchen with my mom and learn as much as I could about cooking. Everyone knows that you need to eat to live, so why not learn to enjoy yourself while doing something that needs to be done to survive anyhow ?

Cooking and baking is also a good way to unwind. However, there are some times that I get frustrated because sometimes the recipes wouldn’t come out exactly as the cookbook showed it should. On the other hand, even though I would get frustrated, I would also learn how to keep my cool. I learned that getting frustrated or angry didn’t help matters, because either way, if a recipe didn’t turn out properly, it was ruined whether I got frustrated or not. As the years passed, I started to create my own recipes by adjusting other recipes, and also by just throwing ingredients together and hoping that the end result would be at least somewhat edible. That’s the best way to learn what works and what doesn’t, is by trying. You never know if it’ll work if you don’t try.

Now I cook and bake a lot. I cook for myself, as well as for my family and my friends. Most of the time, when I’m not busy taking care of my daughter or studying, you can usually find me in the kitchen creating a new recipe, or trying something out of a new cookbook. Going to restaurants can cost a lot of money if you go all the time, but the food isn’t as filling or as tasty as a good home cooked meal. I pride myself on taking care of my family by making sure that they always have a good home cooked meal to sit down to. When I see them undo the zippers or buttons on their trousers because they are full, and see the smiles on their faces, it brings me much joy. My kitchen has taught me a lot about patience as well as brought a sense of comfort to my life. I couldn’t live without a kitchen or my abilities to cook and bake.

What about you ?
